In reply to Brooklyn . I think you missed the part about having a selenite tower, and that I actually keep amethyst and indigo gabro (mmerlinite) on my altar. And some witches don't have crystals on their altar, and that's fine too. If you're going to make comments about an article, make sure you've actually chewed and digested it first. I dont get the obsession with the size of altars. Does it really matter if its big or small? As long as it serves its purpose, who cares? Lets focus on the energy were putting into it instead.

I cant believe they didnt mention the importance of having crystals on your witch altar! Crystals are essential for energy balancing and amplifying your spells. Cant have a proper altar without them!

I dont get why people stress about the size of their witch altar. Its not about the size, its about the energy you put into it. Big or small, as long as it resonates with you, thats all that matters!

In reply to Mary. Great questions Mary! Most witches are very "touchy" (excuse the pun) about people touching things on their altar. But these are your children, perhaps letting them but explaining the importance of putting them back correctly. Or, if you'd rather they didn't tell them no too but have like a "show and tell" time with them so they learn. I personally don't let anyone touch anything on my altar with rare exception. And yes, I aligned my elemental directions with a compass to lock in those correspondences and the balance. I find that getting the directions right and also proper equal spacing of the four elements around the high altar candle equally as to form the edges or circumference of a circle has best effect om my magic. I recommend a compass not only for this, but also for those taking their travel altars out into the woods. Thank you again for your questions, I appreciate you.

So, if I understand correctly, your alter is a matter of personal preference to go along with the proper research you’ve done. As in, do research for elements and items that correspond correctly. Do research for placement of items that align with direction and elements. All in all, your alter is unique to you as an individual. Would you suggest that other people (children in my case) do not interfere/touch items with my alter? I want my alter to remain a sacred space but I also want my children and others to be curious and ask questions about my alter. With children, they usually want to pick items up to investigate. I wasn’t sure if other people touch items on my alter, does this interfere with its protection/being sacred? Should my alter be a “look but do not touch” space?
