The law of attraction suggests that positive thoughts lead to positive outcomes, while negative thoughts bring negative results. People also refer to this concept as manifestation or “outcome” in spells and witchcraft.
This principle operates on the idea that like attracts like—energy draws in similar energy. Many believe that both people and their thoughts consist of pure energy. The law of attraction applies to all areas of life, including health, finances, and relationships. This concept has ancient roots, influenced by various cultures and philosophies.
Hermes Trismegistus, often considered the originator of this idea, taught that “like attracts like.” His Hermetic principles continue to influence witchcraft. Hindu scriptures such as the Mundaka Upanishad and the Chandogya Upanishad also contain teachings related to this law. Attraction has a lot to do with the Hermetic Principle of cause and effect.
During the 1800s, this principle gained popularity and incorporated ideas from ancient Greek philosophy, major world religions, and emerging psychological theories. Many thinkers expanded on the idea, shaping it into the law of attraction people follow today.
Understanding The Law of Attraction
Once you understand metaphysical attraction, you can start applying it. At the end of this article, I will provide an exercise to help you manifest. Throughout this discussion, I will use “laws” and “principles” interchangeably.
Some dismiss this concept as pseudoscience, but I find that it works. In my metaphysical shop, people frequently ask about love and love spells. I always advise them to become what they wish to attract. If you want a partner who avoids drama, don’t engage in it. If you desire a kind-hearted lover, practice kindness yourself. Those seeking ambitious partners should cultivate ambition in their own lives. Your energy attracts similar energy, so embody the qualities you wish to find in others.
The Law of Attraction Works Both Ways
The idea that “like attracts like” applies to both positive and negative energies. People who see themselves as victims tend to attract individuals who take advantage of them. Those who view themselves as helpers and supporters naturally draw in like-minded individuals or those in need of assistance. Spiritual people will attract other spiritual people.
When negativity, hatred, or indifference dominates your mindset, you will find yourself surrounded by similar energy. Conversely, if you remain positive, loving, and supportive, you will attract others who share those qualities. The energy you put into the world determines what you receive. You also have to learn to reject what is not conducive, to make boundaries.
Many people struggle to manifest what they desire because they lack correct self-love. Often, they ask, “Am I cursed?” without realizing they have unintentionally sabotaged themselves. However, manifestation also requires action. Choosing to leave negative situations and actively moving toward positivity plays a crucial role.
You cannot expect positivity, love, and support from those who constantly take without giving in return. Life functions as a balance of give and take. This idea connects to another metaphysical law, the Law of Reciprocity. I will explore that concept in a future article.
Such things often come out and get addressed when I our one of my staff do tarot readings. We offer in-person readings at our metaphysical shop, but you can book one online too. Connect with us for more on Instagram, Facebook (Meta) or TikTok.
How the Universe Reflects Your Energy
Occult philosophy suggests that the Universe mirrors the energy you emit. I have found this to be true. That does not mean chance, chaos, or external forces do not exist. However, your core characteristics and responses significantly influence the outcomes you experience.
This principle operates through alignment. You must align yourself with the reality you wish to create. Of course, setting wise priorities remains essential. Pursuing happiness, prosperity, health, contentment, and love will serve you far better than focusing on fear or scarcity.
Three Principles of Attraction
The law of attraction consists of three key principles:
- Like attracts like
- Nature abhors a vacuum
- The present is always perfect
These principles influence manifestation. If you pay attention, you will see them in action.
Aligning yourself with what you wish to attract remains essential. If you seek love, prepare yourself to receive it. Act as though it has already arrived. Gratitude and anticipation strengthen your ability to manifest.
The second principle suggests that nature will always fill an empty space. If something stagnates, nature eventually removes it. If you want to attract something new, create space for it. Removing what no longer serves you allows energy to flow freely. In magic, people often distinguish between creating and attracting manifestations, but I will discuss that in a future article.
Finally, recognizing the present as perfect allows you to harness its opportunities. This does not mean ignoring difficulties. Instead, it encourages you to see the tools and circumstances available to you now. What changes can you begin today? What small steps can set you on the right path?
Related Laws and Principles
Several additional laws complement the law of attraction:
- The Law of Magnetism – You attract what you project. Negative thoughts invite negative experiences, while positive energy draws in favorable outcomes.
- The Law of Unwavering Desire – Manifestation requires clarity and determination. Your intentions must remain focused and resolute.
- The Law of Harmony – Aligning with the universe’s positive vibrations allows you to reach your goals. While you can align with negativity, doing so serves no purpose.
- The Law of Right Action – Your words and actions shape your experiences. This principle aligns with the Hermetic concept of Cause and Effect.
Additionally, understanding the Threefold Law and karma can deepen your grasp of these concepts. Personally, I resonate more with karma than the Threefold Law. The Eastern interpretation of karma makes more sense to me.
Regardless of which philosophy you follow, remaining mindful of your thoughts and actions remains crucial. When you make mistakes, consequences ripple outward, often in unexpected ways. However, acts of kindness and wisdom also create lasting, multiplied benefits.
Manifesting and the Law of Attraction
To manifest something means to bring it into clear existence. You recognize it, see it, and experience it fully. Manifestation shapes energy into reality. Many practitioners of witchcraft and magic use the law of attraction to set manifestation into motion.
In a future article, I will explore specific methods for manifesting effectively. However, certain fundamental practices improve success.
Gratitude plays a significant role. Focusing on what you already have, as well as what you wish to receive, reinforces manifestation. Instead of dwelling on financial lack, express appreciation for your current resources and anticipate abundance. For example, affirm, “I am so grateful that I always have extra money after paying my bills.” This mindset aligns you with financial stability.
Additionally, focusing on positive thoughts strengthens manifestation. Meditation, scripting, and visualization provide powerful tools for aligning with your desires. I advise people to start with this meditation, once you reach the alpha state, continue to meditation on what you wish.
Methods and Techniques for Attraction
Various manifestation techniques help reinforce your intentions, here’s just a couple for you.
The 777 Manifestation Method involves writing down your desired outcome seven times in the morning and seven times at night for seven consecutive days.
The 369 Manifestation Method uses numerical repetition to strengthen attraction:
- Write your goal three times in the morning.
- Write it six times in the afternoon.
- Write it nine times at night.
This method draws upon numerology, particularly the significance of 3, 6, and 9. These numbers frequently appear in nature and magical traditions. Nine, associated with completion and manifestation, holds special significance in witchcraft. Interestingly, adding these numbers always reduces back to nine (3+6=9, 9+9=18, 1+8=9). I intend on writing future articles about numerology in magical applications.
Repetition strengthens intention, signaling to the universe that you seek a specific outcome. The law of attraction suggests that focused thought increases the likelihood of manifesting your desires.
Many other manifestation techniques exist, but simplicity often leads to the best results. Consistency and focus matter far more than complexity.
I wish you success in attracting positive things. Happy manifesting!
